4.5 starsSo I'm going to keep this short since I'm really late on this one. I loved it. The first 1/2 had me wanting to strangle Flint. He was such a jerk. I could totally sympathize with his situation and I understood his bitterness but what upset me completely was his jealousy and his avoidance of Till and Eliza. Till sacrificed so much and the love he has for his younger brothers is heartwarming so when he pushed him away it was painful for me to read. Ash was a fantastic character I completely adored her. I was definitely surprised with her age because I really didn't see that coming. I loved how the author handled that situation and the years they were apart was the best thing to happen to Flint. The second half Flint showed what an amazing young man he was and I fell completely in love and forgave him of any of his past wrong doings. If any characters deserve amazing HEA it's the Page boys. Now for that ending as always these boys never have it easy.
Overall Opinion: This was WAY better than I thought it'd be. I (like many others) was turned off by the idea that the H was pining over a OW. While he does feel like he loves her at first, I didn't find it anywhere near as bothersome as I thought I would. I think it helped a lot that I had read the first book in the series, Fighting Silence, because this gives me background for his misplaced feelings. Then he becomes fully devoted to Ash. Add in the fact that there is absolutely NO internal dialogue about the OW nor comparing the two women (which I hate when this happens btw) after he meets Ash --and I have no complaints. He made everything up that he did wrong IMO, and the OW was really a non-issue for me. Great surprise! Why not 5 stars? This was well written, and I really ended up liking both characters a lot -- but the stress of the reason behind the separation and the separation itself is enough to drop it down to 4 stars.**See goodreads.com/NMmomof4 for my full review with spoilers**Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ash and Flint's story. I'll keep this short because I don't want to ruin it... They meet through Quarry (the H's brother) introducing them, and the fact that her step-dad married their mom. Flint is bitter over being paralyzed and not getting the girl he thinks he loves (she's married to his brother). Ash lights him up, and soon he forgets about his troubles when he is around her. There are some sweet moments, some stupid things said, a separation, and a reunion to get them their HEA ending.POV: This alternated between Ash and Flint's POV.Overall Pace of Story: Good. I thought it flowed well, and I didn't feel the need to skim at any point.Instalove: No. They move fast (fall in love in a month), but it felt like it was developed enough to be justified.H rating: 4 stars. Flint. He was so biter that he was hard to like at first, but I ended up really liking him. He owned his major mistake, and did everything in his power to fix it.h rating: 4.5 stars. Ash. She was so odd but in the good way. She was a trooper and always was laughing and trying to make others smile even when her own life wasn't the best. I only wish that she communicated a little better at times, but no big complaints with her.Sadness level: Moderate. I teared up, but it never turned into ugly crying.Heat level: Moderate. They have some great chemistry and some hot moments, but not so much that it took away from the storyline.Descriptive sex: Yes.Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of condom use.OW/OM drama: NoSex scene with OW or OM: NoClosure: This had good closure for the couple, as well as a opening for the next book. The epilogue was super sweet and they got their HEA ending. How I got it: I paid the $0.99 on Amazon for it.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I will start this off by saying I read the first book and am always leery when an author writes and amazing first book the second is either going to be an amazing hit or an amazing flop. I will tell you right now this is another amazing hit by this author. When we start this story it is right after the incident in the hotel I won't give it away if you haven't read the first book. Flint is still coming to term with not only what has happened to him but what this means in regards to his feelings for Eliza. Flint knows he needs to find his own way in this world where his brother is free to love the woman of his choosing and Flint doesn't have to feel like he is breaking every-time he sees it.We also meet Ash in this book. Ash has grown up the hard way she lost her mom when she was little her dad never gave her the most stable upbringing but when she lays eyes on Flint she knows she found a diamond in the rough if only she can get Flint to see it too.Nothing in this family ever comes easy so why would a new life for either Flint or Ash be that way. This book as many twists and turns I want to tell you all about but as a reader I think that you should experience them for yourself. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone though. It is as I stated in the beginning an absolute amazing hit.
I wanted to absolutely love this book because I thoroughly enjoyed the first one in this series, the story of Till and Eliza, but I was a tad disappointed. This book featured the middle Page brother, Flint. You do have to read the first book to understand the continuing story of the Page brothers. Flint was a very different person in this book compared to the first one. Understandably so, due to his current predicament, but I was shocked on how bitter and elusive he became. I liked the glimpses we saw of old characters, Till, Eliza, Slate, and especially Quarry, which of cousre set up the next book in the series very nicely. Flint's prickly behavior would soon be challenged when he meets the female protagonist in this story, Ash. She was a young woman who had a terrible childhood and started a life of crime at a young age. Despite that, she remained positive and upbeat in demeanor. I did like Flint's reaction and change in his behavior when he met and started a friendship with Ash. I do recommend this book as you are greeted with a tale of two people who fell in love enjoying the simplest of things such as conversations at night in the midst of weeds and eating burger and shakes. My only fault was with Ash's dislike of Eliza. I understand her position, but c'mon, Eliza was already married to Till and a mother too. I didn't think she really was any threat to preventing her from being with Flint. Ash herself was the biggest obstacle in their relationship, in my opinion.
